STABLE OPEN DAYS
Yorkshire is blessed with 2 large centres of excellence in the training of race horses.
Malton’s heritage is long and illustrious yet today the area is thriving with many horses , great trainers and training facilities. Although unfair to single out any, Richard Fahey deserves a mention for sending out winners totaling more than £1m in 2007. As does Kevin Ryan - who trains at the top of the historical Sutton Bank and has sent out the likes of Amadeus Wolf, Desert Lord and the unforgettable Halmahera - who won the Portland Stakes 3 times at Doncaster.
If that were not enough, we are blessed with a second centre of excellence in Middleham. Situated near Leyburn and not far from the beautiful market town of Richmond, Middleham has 2 moors upon which horses are trained. Imaginatively named High Moor and Low Moor.... non the less, the natural land, grass and climate seems perfect for training thoroughbreds. Again its unfair to name anyone but Mark Johnston certainly has been instrumental in putting Middleham on the map, with in excess of 100 winners per season year after year.
Good Friday has been the traditional open day date for Middleham - but check before you set off.
October sees Mike Sowersby - less than 3 miles away from us - open his doors and a most entertaining & enjoyable day it turns out to be. Again confirm dates before setting off.
