PICKERING WAR WEEKEND
This 3 day event generally takes place one weekend in October - Friday to Sunday - check for actual dates.
This has been held for several years now and has increased in popularity over the years. Any day is impressive but perhaps Sunday more so. Don’t be tempted to take the car into Pickering - you may just regret it - instead park on the showground site south of Pickering and take the superb free park and ride which parachutes you right into the centre using their own Dakota .... only kidding.
For that added touch of realism make sure you dress appropriately, nb the sad 1930’s press man who everyone thought really did work for the Nationals..... I kept telling everyone its not really 1940..... My watch clearly said twenty past three.
If you can make it this event is usually blessed with good weather, nice people and a great atmosphere... pity the pubs don’t get into the spirit and charge 1940’s prices, but hey ho .. Ps The police man was a particularly nice man and highly believable too....
